Circa 1890 this beautiful antique rolled gold locket hails from the Victorian era and is decorated in elegant engine turned engraving. It features a slightly different intricate pattern on each side and has a little vacant cartouche on one side you could chose to have engraved in initials for a personal touch.
Oval in shape the locket has an unusual and very pretty pie crust edge that adds to the overall decorative appeal. It opens from the side to reveal a charming photo of a little Victorian girl behind glass, the glass cover has a crack in it but is securely held in place with the original picture frame.
The locket is unmarked and we have verified it as rolled gold. Rolled gold/gold filled jewellery is made by mechanically bonding a thick sleeve of solid gold over a base metal. Particularly popular for pieces made during the Victorian era the outer gold layer must be at least 1/20 of the overall metal content by weight so it is a high quality durable finish that will retain its beautiful golden lustre.

CONDITION: in very good condition with minor surface wear and light tarnish as expected in a locket this age but nothing untoward, the hinge is in good order with the locket closing properly. Note any dark spots are reflections.
