A dainty and delicate antique Victorian natural red coral necklace. Composed of beautiful nugget and frond 'branch' coral beads this is a choker/collar length necklace measuring 16-1/2"/42cm so it worn high on the neck.
The red coral is natural and undyed, it is a beautiful deep salmon red and with a waxy lustre and scatterings of tiny mollusc holes and growth lines. The beads graduate in size from 18mm to 4mm in length and they are strung on silk necklace cord with the ends finished in gold French wire.
The necklace weighs 19.6 grams, it is in beautiful antique condition with no noted damage to the coral and the silk cord shows no signs of deterioration. The necklace fastens securely with a rolled gold bolt ring.
This demure antique coral necklace is a great way to connect you to 19th century fashion, it a lovely wearing length so it will always be visible with any neckline. The Victorians considered coral a symbol of modesty and it was thought to offer protection against the evil eye, which made this gemstone even more precious!
