An exceptional true period Art Deco Egyptian Revival sterling silver snake bangle hailing from the 1930s.
Superbly crafted in thick sterling silver this sinuous triple coiled snake is hand-engraved and decorated in black 'taille d'épargne' enamelling throughout. The snake's body is adorned in River Nile landscape scenes with his head and tail decorated in geometric scales.
This fabulous bangle has a D-shape profile and it is a large size with a wide diameter so it is worn midway up the forearm between the wrist and elbow. It is fairly flexible so can be worn in a tighter coil or pulled out so it covers more of the arm, it is tactile and très chic!
In 1922, British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun triggering a fresh wave of Egyptomania. "Egyptian Revival" jewellery became madly fashionable and this magnificent bangle is iconic of those heady times.
