Circa 1800, a wonderful antique Georgian intaglio wax seal fob crafted in bright buttery solid 18ct gold. The base is set with a vibrant purple foiled glass matrix engraved with sheet music symbols along with the jaunty sentiment "Good Night All's Well". Absolutely charming!
Known as "amethyst glass" the paste stone has a lovely distinctive deep violet hue. It is a gemstone colour that was very fashionable in Georgian sentimental and mourning jewellery so we have no doubt this pretty piece had great meaning to someone special. Perhaps it was used to seal late night love letters!
The gleaming gold fob pendant itself is carved in a beautiful Gothic Revival rose design and as it is quite a dainty feminine size this is bound to be a fob made for a lady.
Originally worn on watch or chatelaine chains these gorgeous high quality gold fobs make for unique antique pendants and can still be used to seal letters with wax, extremely collectable!
This lovely sentimental piece remains in very, very good antique condition with expected signs of surface wear and age but no real flaws. The intaglio matrix turns out a well defined impression and the fobs carved gold rose pattern is still lovely and crisp.
