A beautiful 6 carat raspberry pink rhodolite garnet graces this lovely antique 14ct gold pendant that has a glass locket box in the back.
Hailing from the high Victorian era the juicy pink pomegranate seed garnet is mounted into a closed back gold setting. The setting is beautifully decorative, chased and engraved in a pretty floral pattern with a cut out fluted border. Gold open scrollwork adorns the top along with a large wide bore closed jump ring style bale.
The reverse of the pendant features a very deep glass fronted locket box along with a satin covered cardboard placeholder. If you wish to add a photo or precious lock of hair the compartment is easily removed by inserting a thin blade around the edge and gently easing it out. The compartment slides seamlessly back in and snaps securely into place, beautifully crafted and lovely quality!
MATERIALS: 14ct gold, acid tested
GEMSTONE: rhodolite garnet, tested and verified with a Presidium Gem Tester, measures 16x12mm
DATE: Victorian, circa 1860
HALLMARKS: Stamped with a hallmark near the top of the garnet which we are unable to read, possibly a French gold guarantee eagle mark and we have acid tested to verify gold purity.
MEASUREMENTS: height 1-1/2" (4cm) including the bail, width 1" (2.5cm), depth 10 mm. the jump ring bail at the top is 7mm
WEIGHT: 6.1 grams
CONDITION: Very, very good antique condition with no wearing thin of the gold and the engraving still crisp. No chips, nicks or surface scratches on the garnet. The thick glass locket compartment in the back of the pendant has a hairline crack but it is stable and secure in its gold collar so isn't going to fall out, please see photos. Please note, chain is not included.
