An absolutely beautiful vintage 14ct rolled gold locket and original chain manufactured by the Kordes & Lichtenfels company in Germany around 1960. Kordes & Lichtenfels were makers of high quality gold, silver and rolled gold jewellery from the late 19th century
Very much in the Edwardian style the locket has bright cut engraving on the front in a romantic floral rose pattern against a textured quilted effect background. It has a tiny ruby red crystal set into one of the flowers and an ornate Art Nouveau style fan shaped bale adds even more to the charming old world decoration.
The back of the locket is engraved in a machine turned geometric design and it opens from the side to reveal 2 good sized stations for photographs along with the original picture rings and one clear acetate photo cover. It suspends from the 14ct rolled gold original chain, lovely to find them still together after all this time.
Both the locket and chain are in very good condition with minimal evidence of any real use. There is no wearing away of the gold overlay. Rolled gold (gold filled) jewellery is made by mechanically bonding a sleeve of solid gold onto base metal. It is significantly thicker than gold electroplating. The best quality rolled gold looks, feels and wears like solid gold but it won't break the bank!
