A beautiful vintage Whitby jet ring crafted in gleaming sterling silver in an oval swirl and dot design. Not to be confused with French jet, which is glass, Whitby Jet is a fossilized mineral gemstone millions of years old that is only found in and around the cliffs in Whitby, a seaside hamlet in England.
The plump egg shaped cabochon of jet is set into a sinuous Art Nouveau/Arts & Crafts inspired silver mount that lends itself beautifully to the organic nature the jet. A sturdy D-shaped band completes this elegant statement ring.
If you have yet to meet genuine Whitby jet, it is a beautiful gemstone used since ancient times - jet jewellery that dates to Roman times has been unearthed in Britain. Polished to a high shine it is a glossy intense deep black, lightweight and warm to the touch. We are located in the Whitby area and all of our jet jewellery is locally sourced.
