A wonderfully stylish Art Deco ring dating from the 1920s, with all the glamour and exuberance of the Jazz Age.
The ring has an elongated oval face in sterling silver, beautifully detailed with rows of sparkling marcasite in a striking geometric openwork design. At the centre is a bright blue, square-cut paste topaz (glass), bezel set with delicate millegrain edging. The rich aqua-blue stone is framed by the marcasite decoration, while curved bands of deep blue enamel provide a subtle accent at both the top and bottom of the face.
The slim, elongated proportions and symmetrical geometric design are quintessentially Art Deco, while the combination of marcasite, blue enamel and the vibrant central stone gives the ring a wonderful sense of 1920s theatricality. A solid 9ct yellow gold band elevates the ring and adds a lovely contrast to the cool tones of the silver face — an especially nice feature of the piece.
This is what I think of as an iconic Jazz Baby ring — elegant but playful, bold without being overly large, and with exactly the sort of glamorous, geometric styling that makes original Art Deco jewellery so appealing today.
