This beautiful antique Georgian Scottish banded agate seal is set with a Roman carved carnelian intaglio of a grazing horse. The intaglio was probably acquired whilst on a grand tour of Europe and set into this fabulous accessory.
A quality piece that was once used for sealing private letters with wax it is small and elegantly proportioned. The handle is hand-carved out of striking semi-translucent brown agate that has dramatic banded lines running throughout. The glowing orange carved carnelian gemstone intaglio seal at the bottom is set in sterling silver and it is tiny, smaller than my little finger nail! The carving is free of any damage turning out a well defined impression. Apart from the odd tiny nibble to the agate the handle is also in excellent antique condition. An all round exquisite example of Georgian workmanship and a fine collectors piece!
This highly decorative Georgian accessory is as beautiful as it is fully functional, it will make a unique gift for a writer or equestrian friend!

CONDITION: overall in fine antique condition, the agate handle is quite slender and delicate so we imagine it is rare for it to have survived intact after 200+ years!
