At a sassy 52"/132cm long this beautiful antique Georgian sterling silver guard chain necklace is composed of complex curb design links, these very tightly woven links result in a strong sturdy chain with a good weight.
The guard chain is continuous and terminates in a threaded screw type swivel clip. These nifty clips are quite different to the later Victorian versions, they have a collar that screws upwards to open the clip which is hinged. To close it you simply flip the little peg back into the slot and screw the collar back down to lock it in place.
This necklace is in very good antique condition with signs of age, wear and use consistent with a chain over 200 years old, please see photos. The clip is in perfect working order fastening securely. Antique chains with these with tight double links are prone to the odd kink when bunched up but a little circular jiggle at both sides of the kink soon releases it.
