An exquisitely ornate and entirely original Victorian Albertina silver watch chain, which can also be worn as a stunning bracelet.
Crafted throughout in 800 silver, a traditional European silver fineness containing 80% pure silver. 800 silver was a well-established and widely used fineness for European jewellery and accessories during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly in continental Europe.
Rich in decorative detail, this charming Albertina is composed of finely twisted rope chain, accented with beautifully embossed spherical embellishments decorated with bead and scrolling heart motifs. It retains its original T-bar, classic Victorian dog-clip clasp and distinctive multi-strand fox-tail tassel, which sways beautifully with movement.
Originally worn to secure a pocket watch, locket or other treasured accessory to a bodice or jacket, the Albertina was the ladies' decorative counterpart to the gentleman's functional Albert chain.
This example is particularly versatile and can also be worn as a beautiful bracelet. To wear as a bracelet, simply fasten the dog clip to the larger round jump ring at the junction with the T-bar drop. If you think you might find this a little fiddly, we are happy to fit an additional larger jump ring to make fastening easier — simply leave a note with your order.
