A fantastic antique Victorian Scottish agate heart pendant. Crafted in gleaming sterling silver this is a large statement sized pendant with a lovely puffy profile. It is set with four wedges of agate arranged to form a cross shape in the centre. There are two quadrants of steely grey Montrose Blue banded agate and two quadrants of deep forest green bloodstone speckled in red.
The cross motif is picked out in ornate hand-engraved geometric linear patterns and flourishes of acanthus leaf. Topped in a large V-shaped pillowed bale this beautiful Victorian Scottish pendant will look incredible paired with a bold silver chain to match her character. Please note the chain shown is not included.
Scotland is known for its abundance of colourful agate which is found in a huge variety of colours and patterns, each type specific to a particular place. Queen Victoria's love for all things Scottish generated high demand for jewellery of this type, she set off a "Scottish Pebble" craze which caused it to become highly collectable and it still remains that way today!
