An outstanding antique Scottish citrine brooch circa 1860, so hailing from the high Victorian period.
Crafted in thick sterling silver the brooch showcases a very large natural citrine (known as a Cairngorm in Scotland) of around 24 carats. The gorgeous gemstone is a glowing golden orange and it is laced deep inside with beautiful feathery inclusions. The citrine has been tested and verified using a Presidium Gemtester.
The citrine is fleur-de-lis claw set into a tall scalloped crown mount which lifts the stone nice and high allowing the light to get behind it and enhance the sparkle even more. Top quality hand engraving in 3 pattern lines decorate the brooch frame and, not to be outdone, the crown holding the citrine is engraved in a superb floral pattern. In these days of mass production you just never get to see this high level of engraving anymore!
A decorative silver safety chain is attached to the top and the back of the brooch has a heavy duty pin stem, t-hinge and c-clasp with lots of room behind to accommodate gathering and for wear on heavier fabrics if you wish. Traditionally in Scotland this type of brooch is used attach the tartan "fly" to the clothing, it is worn on the shoulder my men and on the breast by women.
