This exceptional Victorian sterling silver kilt pin is fashioned as a grouse claw and showcases a huge 30 carat natural Scottish citrine (known locally as a Cairngorm) in a deeply saturated rich gold-brown. Dark citrines are uncommon and this one is a delicious Whiskey colour adding to the immense appeal of this extraordinary piece. The citrine has been tested and verified using a Presidium Gemstone Tester.
Superb quality this piece is solidly crafted in thick gauge sterling silver, it is beautifully modelled with realistic curly feathers and rugged scales and the talons tightly clutch the glowing golden gemstone. Cleverly designed it is made in a bulbous shape, it is very heavy and we think it might contain a hidden weight in the base. A kilt pin is worn to weigh down the apron of the kilt which is why it is preferable to use a heavy pin. This piece also benefits from a heavy duty pin back with plenty of room behind to accommodate gathers or pleats.
