A truly exceptional antique Victorian Scottish sterling silver kilt pin modelled as a monumental gemstone-set Sgian Dubh, dating to circa 1890. Set with glowing Cairngorm citrines and striking banded Montrose agates, this is the largest and most impressive gemstone-mounted example we have ever handled at Mercy Madge.
Beautifully hand crafted in solid sterling silver, the pin measures almost 4 inches long and has impressive weight and presence at 16 grams. The tiered handle and blade are richly engraved with scrolling acanthus decoration and mounted throughout with beautifully banded Montrose blue lace agates in deep smoky blue-grey tones. Three glowing pale golden citrines — known in Scottish jewellery as Cairngorm stones — graduate down the hilt and catch the light beautifully against the cool silver and agate.
The reverse retains its original heavy-duty pin fitting and it benefits from a detachable safety chain.
Rich in Scottish heritage and wonderfully theatrical in scale, this is an heirloom-quality example of Victorian Highland jewellery — rare, authentic, and guaranteed to draw attention whenever it is worn.
