Fully hallmarked in 1881 this absolutely beautiful Victorian Aesthetic era silver and gold locket is decorated on both sides. On the front it features an applied rose spray motif overlaid in red and green gold. A border of raised pansies and tiny silver milgrain beads against an oxidised background frame the gorgeous rose making it really pop. The edge of the locket features scalloped cut-outs giving it a very pretty frilled outline.
The back of the locket features the same decoration but the central area is plain apart from the stamped hallmarks. The yoke at the top of the locket benefits from a large fan shaped bale that will happily accommodate most sizes of chain including antique book chains. The locket opens from the side to reveal 2 generously sized compartments along with picture frames. The compartments are quite deep so there is plenty of room for little keepsakes and larger photos.

CONDITION: in very, very good condition with light wear, surface scratches and minor tarnish as you would expect in an antique locket. The engraving and detailing is still beautifully crisp and she shuts tightly with a solid click. Overall, a very fine example of the Victorian Aesthetic movement in all of its glory.
