These exquisite antique Victorian 9ct gold earrings feature gorgeous long crescent moon drops and have fabulous movement when worn. The moons have scalloped outlines with fine milgrain detailing and are set with tiny seed pearls that are a bright white. The centre of each moon is set in an oval shaped opal with another opal dangling enticingly from the bottom.
The stunning opals have a misty greenish blue hue with flashes of electric green and fiery red deep within, a real lively play of colour. The drops suspend from classic shepherd hook fittings that are accented in gold beads and coiled wire. The hooks look to be later replacements.
Bursting in sentiment these beautiful and feminine gold earrings are a classic Victorian love token, crescent moons showed the desire for new relationships to develop into marriage and they symbolise fertility, opals stand for hope and pearls innocence. Crescent moon jewellery was often known as honeymoon jewellery!

GEMSTONE: 4 Australian opals measuring approx. 6.75x5mm, roughly 0.60cts each. Total carat weight 2.4cts. 10 natural pearls approx 1mm diameter
MEASUREMENTS: 1-1/2" (4cm) tall (top to bottom), the drops are a tad over 1" (2.5cm) and 1/2" (1.3cm) wide
DATE: Victorian, circa 1880
WEIGHT: 2.7 grams total
HALLMARKS: hooks stamped '375' for 9ct gold. The drops aren't marked and we have acid tested and verified they are at least 9ct solid gold
CONDITION: in excellent antique condition with minimal wear.
