A beautifully detailed mid-century Scottish brooch featuring an intricately engraved thistle design, centred by a richly coloured, faceted amber-orange glass Cairngorm-style stone in a high crown setting. Traditionally worn with Highland dress, these substantial brooches were used to secure a tartan fly plaid to the shoulder.
Crafted in nickel silver, also known as German silver or alpaca, this attractive piece has a lovely bright finish that resembles sterling silver. The reverse is fitted with a substantial pin, T-hinge and C-clasp, designed to accommodate the weight of heavy tweeds and tartan cloth.
A striking example of traditional Scottish jewellery, this brooch would make a wonderful finishing touch to Highland dress, historical costume or a Scottish-themed wedding. CONDITION: Very good vintage condition, with the glass stone securely set. The reverse shows tooling marks consistent with the hand-fabricated construction of a piece of this age.
