A superb all original 1920s Art Deco sterling silver bracelet set with vivid turquoise Egyptian faience scarab beetle amulets. The bracelet is stamped with early Egyptian hallmarks and comes in a blue antique box.

Excellent quality and hand wrought the bracelet is beautifully detailed with silver scrollwork against a shadowed background framing each scarab which is numbered on the back and has a hole running through it like a bead. The scarabs are made from Egyptian faience, a type of vitrified glazed pottery that has been used for small objects like beads and these scarab amulets since ancient times. To the ancient Egyptians the scarab beetle symbolised the sun god Re and meant "to come into being". The clasp is equally as impressive, it is embossed with hieroglyphics which, we are sure, will have a meaning too.

This type of genuine period Egyptian revival jewellery hailing from the 1920s and 1930s is incredible and very collectable. The pieces were created by the Egyptian silversmiths in response to "Tutmania" the intense international interest from scholars and tourists who flocked there after the opening of Tutankhamen's tomb by Howard Carter in 1923.

MATERIALS: tests as 925 sterling silver, Egyptian pottery (faience)

MEASUREMENTS: 7-3/4" (19cm) end to end. The scarabs measure approx. 1" x 1/2" (2.5x0.75cm) and are 10mm deep
