This beautiful antique Edwardian 9ct rose gold locket is stamped with hallmarks for Chester 1913. Chester assay office closed permanently in 1962 resulting in these historical hallmarks becoming particularly sought after. The locket is perfectly round and a generous size. It is engraved on both sides in an Acanthus leaf wreath decoration framed by a raised milgrain beads. There are central cartouches on each side, one side is engraved in an ornate 'LL' monogram with the other side left vacant.
The locket opens at the top to reveal a 2 compartments. One side has a purple paper liner, a gold picture ring and hard plastic photo cover. The other side holds a charming period photo a little girl behind a clear plastic cover (there is no picture ring in this side). The top is finished in a 5mm gold closed jump ring.
This locket can be purchased with the new 9ct yellow gold 18"/ 45cm fine curb chain as pictured or you can purchase the the locket alone if you prefer. The chain is stamped '375' for 9ct gold.

METAL: 9ct yellow gold
MEASUREMENTS: locket 1-1/8/2.8cm in diameter (will fit photos approx. 1"/2.5cm), 6,25mm deep. Jump ring 5mm diameter.
HALLMARKS: locket stamped '9-375', 'wheat sheaves & sword' for Chester, date letter 'n' for 1913 (hallmarks are a little worn but legible). Also stamped on the jump ring with indistinct hallmarks.
DATE: Edwardian, dated 1913
WEIGHT: 4.3 grams (locket alone)
CONDITION: In excellent condition for its age, one tiny pin-point ding on one side. Note any dark spots and odd lumps and bumps are reflections, this locket has a mirror-like surface! The hinge is in good order with the locket closing securely with a satisfying snap.
