This adorable antique Edwardian sterling silver baby's brooch stamped with full English hallmarks for 1904. Hand crafted in an elongated oval shape with beautifully engraved floral detailing and "Baby" in raised lettering it has a 'nursery pin' fastener on the back. .
Known as "handy" pins these little treasures were traditionally given to babies as a birth or christening gift and were used to fasten a bib, or worn as decoration on a hat or a coat.
As Victorian/Edwardian baby brooches go this is a larger example measuring 1-3/4"/4cm long , 5/8"/1.5cm wide and it weighs 2.1 grams. It is hallmarked on the reverse 'lion passant' for sterling, 'anchor' for Birmingham, date letter 'd' for 1904 and makers mark 'S.B'.
