Hailing from the British Raj era this unusual tortoiseshell and silver Piqué work bracelet is composed of 7 panels decorated with scenes from India.

Piqué is a decorative jewelry technique, in which gold or silver are inlaid into a material to form a pattern. Made fashionable during the Victorian era, it was popular throughout most parts of Europe but mostly in Italy and England.

Circa 1920 the bracelet features little engraved silver inlaid figures of people dancing, serving food and playing music, there is also a temple and two elephants adding to the overall charm.

The shell is a glossy dark brown color and the panels are slightly graduated in size with the bracelet fastening with a simple fold over and snap down silver clasp. The bracelet measures 7-3/4" (19-1/2 cm) end to end and 3/4" (18mm) wide at the front. The panels measure approx. 28x16.

Condition is good antique with expected signs of age and wear. There are a couple of areas of chipping at the edges of the tortoiseshell panels and one of the figures is missing although the silver lining is still there. The hinges in between the panels are sturdy and in perfect working order as is the clasp.

A wonderfully exotic Art deco era bracelet, very wearable today and will invite plenty of curiosity and compliments!
