A lovely quality antique sterling silver St. Johns cross fob with good clear British hallmarks for 1896.
This charming cross is decorated in a pretty engraved floral pattern, a round cartouche in the centre is richly engraved in a monogrammed "GWB" and a large heavy duty silver jump ring is soldered onto the bale at the top.
The Cross of St. John or Cross Pattée is a Christian symbol used in heraldic coat of arms since medieval times. It was a popular jewellery motif in Victorian Britain where it remains a symbol of protection, representing courage, honour and bravery.
A very sweet piece of antique jewellery and a classic amulet, good for the gents or the ladies!.
