A beautiful antique Victorian Aesthetic era solid silver bangle bearing good clear Chester hallmarks for the year 1876. The Chester assay office closed its doors forever in 1964 resulting in these historical hallmarks becoming particularly sought after by collectors.
The bangle is exquisitely hand engraved on the front in a romantic ivy and Greek Key design. To the sentimental Victorians the clinging ivy symbolised fidelity and eternal love, romantically engraved bracelets such as this were often given to sweethearts and wives.
The back is bangle is left plain and at full inch wide it is the perfect medium width. The bangle is crafted on the oval with rolled edges for strength and comfort it opens up fully on a hinge and closes with a hidden shovel clasp that closes securely with a satisfying click. This is a piece worn close fitting so best suited to a slim or small average wrist.

MATERIALS: sterling silver
MEASUREMENTS: measures 1" (2.6cm) wide. Inside circumference is 7-1/4" (18cm) around. Internally it measures 2-1/8" (5.5cm) from hinge to clasp and 2" (5cm) front to back.

DATE: Victorian, dated 1876
HALLMARKS: stamped inside front & back. Front stamped 'lion passant' for sterling, 'wheatsheaves & sword' for Chester, date letter 'n' for 1876 and makers mark 'C.B'. Back stamped in the same hallmarks.
CONDITION: In very good antique condition with light surface wear, scratches and signs of use. Some tarnish in the hard to reach areas.
