Circa 1950, a superbly detailed, rare and iconic sterling silver figural brooch by South African designer and silversmith Joe Calafato.
The most desirable and collectible of Joe Calafato's designs are those most influenced by the African landscape, animal and village life and this adorable African boy is perhaps the most distinctive of all his cultural compositions. The little guy is depicted eating from a three legged stew pot with a wooden spoon. Perhaps because of his endearing quality, it became one of very few pieces that was additionally stamped with a descriptive title, namely ‘lo umfaan’
A beautiful brooch inspired by African culture and heritage, perfect for the collector and a unique gift for someone special.
