This substantial Victorian 9ct gold fob showcases a carved carnelian intaglio of Mars, the Roman God of war, depicted resplendent in his warrior helmet with a spear at his shoulder.
Hallmarked for London, the fob features a lovely cut out design with scrolls and decorative embossing around the base and on the ring bale. The round carnelian stone is a rich orangey red and which just glows through cut out work adding to the appeal. A fabulously decorative piece, these fancy intaglio fobs were originally worn to adorn pocket watch and chatelaine chains, these days they make for perfect antique pendants and are very collectable!
