A beautiful traditional antique Scottish banded chalcedony agate brooch hailing from the Victorian era. The large slightly domed waxy stone is banded in cream and brown wavy lines and bezel set and framed in a silver barley sugar twist trim.

The back features a sturdy pin stem, tube hinge and c-clasp. The pin back is strong enough to gather heavy plaids and tartans so perfect for winter wear and securing scarves.

It is in very good antique condition with signs of wear and age as you would expect in a piece over 150 years old. There is slight surface scuffing to the stone and a tiny chip to the edge that isn't particularly noticeable. Likewise, there is minor depression in the silver trim at one side. Please see photos. The pin back is in perfect working order and holds very securely.

Scottish chalcedony (agate) or pebble jewellery as it is sometimes called became very fashionable after Victoria bought Balmoral Castle in Scotland in 1848.
