This perfectly formed little antique malachite brooch is carved into a charming crescent moon. Hand-crafted in sterling silver it is an understated, minimalist and elegant lapel pin that is equally at home on the tie, stock or cravat.
Super quality it has a sturdy pin back that is angled so it will happily pin to thick fabrics and the gorgeous Scottish gemstone is a rich glossy emerald green and beautifully banded.
Traditionally given as a loving gift to Victorian and Edwardian brides, crescent moon brooches were thought to symbolise femininity and fertility. After the wedding ceremony the brooch would be pinned onto the lapel of the bride's "going away outfit", not surprisingly, they became widely known as "honeymoon" brooches.

CONDITION: in very, very good antique condition. Malachite is a soft stone and there is a tiny hairline which can really only be seen in our closely magnified photos. The stone is stable, it still sits flush with no movement as it is still tightly set in the bezel. The pin back is in perfect working order
