A curious and rare piece this antique Scottish kilt pin features a young deer's fetlock mounted in sterling silver with a paste citrine pommel. Although real grouse foot kilt pins were part of traditional highland dress during the Victorian era this is the first deer foot we have seen, possibly a hunting trophy.

A quality piece the silver mount is beautifully hand-engraved in Acanthus leaves with the citrine held in a tall crown setting. The tiny hoof is equally decorative inlaid in square silver studs. The back features a heavy duty pin that will happily gather and hold tartans and thick fabrics.

A fabulous example of Victorian Scottish taxidermy jewellery. Traditionally worn on scarves, hats and coats as well as kilts taxidermy pins were very fashionable attire worn at game shooting parties held at Scottish country house estates. The pins were worn as good luck charms to bring success to the hunt.

Whether you’re looking for a impressive antique pin to wear on a kilt or a unique statement brooch for your winter jacket this may be just the ticket, highly collectible too!
