A superb quality solid sterling silver Victorian bookchain necklace. Designed to lay perfectly flat around the neck the bookchain has concentric engraved round links alternating between beautiful silver wire wrapped 'snake' links. A strong and robust antique chain it has soldered end rings that are constructed out of thick engraved silver and a large bolt ring fastener that will happily support heavy lockets and pendants.
The necklace is elegantly proportioned and not too wide, it measures 17-3/4" (45cm) end to end. Wonderfully tactile this chain has taken on a gorgeous antique patina over the past 150+ years giving it a silky snake chain feel as you move it around in your hand.
A classic of the period, it has enough presence to wear it alone as a signature piece, fab for layering and is ideal to attach your antique pendants and lockets. It is destined to become a go-to favourite however worn, you will wear it forever!
"Book chains" were an essential bit of kit in the late 19th century, these heavy duty silver chains became known as book chains because Victorian ladies had a habit of removing them to use as a bookmark whilst reading!
