Hallmarked in 1967 this striking vintage 9ct gold marquise ring is set with a a long slender oval 5 carat smoky quartz gemstone.
The beautifully faceted stone is a rich golden brown with a deep purple undertone in bright light. There is a lot of gold showing in this ring, the gemstone is held in a very deep bezel within a stepped setting so the face rises high off the finger. Undeniably neoclassical in design its elegant flared shoulders lead to a comfortable D-shaped band.
With its chic marquise outline and knuckle length finger coverage this striking smoky quartz ring is a real statement piece. Quartz gemstones are known as "Cairngorms" in Scotland and they include amethyst and citrine as well as smoky quartz. Cairngorms have been considered to have magical and healing powers since ancient times.
