This fabulous vintage 1960s very large sterling silver ankh cross pendant is stamped in Egyptian hallmarks so a piece made by local silversmiths in Egypt. The cross suspends from a fantastic heavy duty sterling silver belcher chain that is a full 24-1/2" (62cm) and is stamped in British hallmarks.
The ankh is an ancient Egyptian symbol that represents life, the afterlife, and eternal life. It is a cross with a loop at the top, and is also known as the key of life or the key of the Nile. This is a fabulous example of this ancient amulet.
A quality necklace the cross is hand wrought in solid silver and it has a generous fan shaped bale on the top. The vintage chain is substantial with elegant D-shaped round links and a large bolt ring fastener, a classic belcher!

HALLMARKS: cross stamped on the base in a set of 3 hallmarks 'Arabic characters & lotus flower' bale stamped in an Arabic character. Chain stamped on loop 'lion passant' for sterling, 'leopard head' for London, date letter 'e' for 1960 and maker's mark 'ZW Ltd.'

CONDITION: in excellent vintage condition with light signs of wear and no noted damage. Shows tooling marks on the cross as to be expected in a piece that isn't mass produced.
