This antique ‘HMS Aurora’ anchor pendant has been converted from a sweetheart brooch and was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1915 — just a year into the First World War, when the world was in turmoil. Pieces like this were exchanged as tokens of love and remembrance, carried close during these uncertain times.

Crafted in sterling silver with gold lettering by Adie Brothers, Birmingham, it is statement sized and in fair antique condition, with visible surface wear and a few dents and dings consistent with its hollow construction, together with evidence of tooling marks on the reverse. It has clearly been treasured and well worn, and honestly reflects its 100+ year age. We have priced it with its condition in mind.

HMS Aurora was a Royal Navy light cruiser that saw active service during the First World War, including at the Battle of Dogger Bank in 1915. She went on to serve throughout the war and was present when the German High Seas Fleet surrendered. Following the war, she was transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy in 1920. Aurora's name gives this charming sweetheart piece an added connection to the young men and loved ones whose lives were shaped by the conflict.

We have added a new Italian sterling silver classic belcher chain for immediate wear. A powerful survivor of its time, rich in sentiment, effortlessly wearable today and ready to carry its story forward.
