A beautifully decorative Georgian rosy gold-cased fob seal dating to circa 1780-1820, featuring an ornate floral mount and a warm golden citrine set into the base.
Originally worn suspended from a gentleman's watch chain, antique fob seals are now often worn as pendants and charms, appreciated for their character, history and unmistakable sense of age. This is a particularly lovely example, with intricate foliate decoration throughout and an honestly worn surface that reflects over two centuries of use.
The base is set with a rounded rectangular citrine displaying rich golden-brown tones. The fob measures approximately 3cm (1.18 inches) in height including the suspension loop. The base measures approximately 1.8cm x 1.5cm (0.71 x 0.59 inches). Weight 6.0 grams.
In fair antique condition. The gold casing shows noticeable wear consistent with age with areas of colour variation. Under close inspection, small spots where the underlying base metal is visible. These condition issues have been reflected in the price and do not detract from the piece's decorative appeal or wearability. It remains a beautiful and charming piece whether worn alone or layered with other antique jewellery.
An honest survivor from the sumptuous and stylish Georgian era, carrying the gentle wear and patina that only centuries can create. One can only wonder what stories it might tell after more than two centuries of history.
