This beautiful antique Victorian 18ct gold large bar brooch is set with a star and crescent moon motif in the centre that is carpeted in luscious deep red rose cut Bohemian garnets.
Jewellery featuring moon and star motifs was hugely popular with the Victorians and was given as a token of love. The crescent moon, because it eventually turned full, represented the desire that a fledgling relationship would blossom into marriage and stars symbolised guidance and protection.
Crafted in warm rosy gold the garnets are rose cut and bead set. The brooch has a sturdy secure clasp in the reverse and it remains in excellent antique condition with minimal wear and the gemstones securely set. Please note the antique box shown is not included.
A beautiful example of this type of antique sweetheart jewellery, steeped in sentiment. Good for the ladies or the gents, it would make an impressive cravat or stock pin and can easily be converted into a stunning ring by a jeweller.
