This wonderful Victorian 9ct rolled gold brooch features an exquisite hand painted porcelain plaque depicting a beautiful Gypsy maiden.
The highly romanticised portrait is expertly painted in bright colourful enamels and the porcelain plaque is impressed with the number '31' on the back. These sentimental portraits (that we should mention show differing levels of painterly skill) were hand-painted in Austria, Germany and Italy during the 1860's and 70's and they are frequently found set in the brooches, pendants and earrings of the mid-Victorian era.
The brooch is in very good antique condition with no fading or loss to the enamel and the pin back in good working order. A fabulous example of this type of jewellery, very striking and bold for the time!
