A beautiful antique Victorian Scottish agate sterling silver bracelet with a heart charm decorating the front. The bracelet is articulated (like a bicycle chain) and showcases a striking variety of agates carved in long rectangular curved blocks, Scotland is known for its abundance of these colourful agate which is found in a huge variety of colours and patterns, each type specific to a particular place.
The agate blocks are joined together with silver hinged connectors engraved in Acanthus leaves and the bracelet fastens at the front with a hook clasp that is attached to a lovely golden yellow banded carved agate heart shaped charm with a floral engraved silver yoke.
A fantastic example of its type. Scottish jewellery of the 19th century - often referred to as pebble jewellery - is known for this innovative use of cut and carved agates. Queen Victoria's love for all things Scottish generated high demand for this type of jewellery and that demand still remains!

DATE: Victorian, circa 1890
CONDITION: overall in very, very good condition showing surface wear and signs of age as expected in an antique piece but nothing untoward. Note any dark spots are reflections.
