An unusual and captivating antique Victorian sterling silver bracelet dating to circa 1890, beautifully set with ten natural operculums, often known as Shiva's Eye, Cat's Eye, or Mermaid's Money.
These fascinating organic treasures are not gemstones in the traditional sense but the protective "trapdoors" of Turban sea snails. The name operculum derives from the Latin for "little lid," referring to the natural door that seals the shell when the creature retreats inside.
Each operculum displays its own distinctive pattern of concentric rings and swirling markings in soft shades of creamy white, pearlescent blush pink, honey beige, and pale lilac-brown. No two are identical, giving the bracelet a wonderfully organic and individual character.
Entirely hand-crafted, each operculum is individually mounted within an open-backed sterling silver setting framed by decorative rope-twist borders. The bracelet fastens with a discreet integrated box clasp, creating an elegant continuous circle around the wrist when worn.
