An unusually ornate and highly distinctive antique Georgian silver pendant fob, dating to the early 19th century and set with a dramatic marbled glass seal in swirling tones of chocolate brown, copper, cream and white.
At first glance the seal convincingly resembles finely banded agate — a testament to the skill of Georgian glassmakers — though testing confirmed it to be glass rather than hardstone. The richly flowing patterning gives the piece remarkable visual depth and movement.
Beautifully hand-crafted in solid silver, the mount is adorned with elaborate openwork scroll decoration and heraldic birds, retaining the bold sculptural character so admired in Georgian jewellery. Remarkably substantial in scale, this is the largest Georgian fob we have encountered, possessing an unusually bold and sculptural presence more akin to a miniature objet d’art than a simple watch accessory. Clearly a high-status example, it was intended to hang prominently from a gentleman’s watch chain as both a practical seal and an overt expression of taste and status.
The fobs dramatic closed-back dome and openwork form create a bell-like silhouette, lending this unique piece an especially striking profile from every angle. A rare and deeply characterful Georgian piece that would look exceptional worn paired with a substantial silver chain.

CONDITION: In very good antique condition with light surface wear commensurate with age. One small shell motif to the side is absent, though this is not especially noticeable amidst the intricate silver work and is readily forgiven in a piece over 200 years old.
