What a rare bird, this handsome antique sterling silver early propelling pencil features a perpetual calendar and a carnelian seal, an all round exquisite example of Georgian workmanship and a fine collectors piece!
With every inch decorated in beautiful machine turned engraving it has a silver band that acts as the slider. The finial at the top is embossed and chased in a gorgeous floral flourish pattern and it is set with a vibrant orange-red carnelian gemstone seal. The perpetual calendar will work forever, the top section rotates so you can line it up with a day and then use it to see which days in the month that will fall on that day.
Used before the introduction of pencil leads this is used with a proper pencil. The width of the opening for the pencil is 5mm (about 1/3") and there is currently a wooden pencil inside. Slim architectural or golf pencils will fit or you can simply reduce the diameter of fatter pencils by sanding them.
