A fairly heavy duty antique sterling silver 60" long guard chain necklace with double curb links and a dog-clip. A double curb link chain is a tight weave type of chain where 2 links are laid on top of each other and joined by a 3rd, this construction technique results in a durable hard wearing chain resistant to breaking.
This is a "continuous" necklace that goes over the head (it doesn't open) and has interest whether worn long, doubled or even tripled, add a locket or a pendant or not!
Very fashionable during the Georgian and Victorian eras these beautiful and versatile guard chain necklaces were one of several jewels worn at the same time. They were used to attach, and keep close at hand, all manner of things like pocket watches, lorgnettes and portrait miniatures of loved ones.

MEASUREMENTS: measures 30-3/4" (78cm) down each side, total length of the continuous chain of 59-1/4" (151cm), the chain width is 3mm and the dog clip measures 23x8mm

CONDITION: In good antique condition with surface wear and expected signs of age and use. There are some single chain links missing here and there (fairly typical in old double link chains) which is not particularly noticeable when worn - please see the photos. The dog-clip is fixed (not swivel) and is in good working order fastening securely. Tight weave chains like these can form the occasional kink when bunched up but a firm circular jiggle from both sides of the kink soon releases it.
