We can't help thinking that this very unusual little Celtic brooch might have been given to someone to wish them Bon Voyage because it features a Viking longship along with the Gaelic inscription "Bennachd Leibh" which translated means "Goodbye".
The brooch is cast in solid sterling silver and is stamped 'Silver - Made in Scotland' on the reverse. A difficult piece to date, we estimate it to around 1940. It is in excellent vintage condition showing just light surface wear and the pitting and tooling marks you'd expect in a handcrafted cast piece. It measures approx. 1" (2.8cm) across and high and weighs 7 grams.
Equally at home on the tie, lapel or cravat this unusual silver brooch oozes Celtic culture and history, good for the gents or the ladies and a great piece for the collector or perhaps the perfect gift for someone who is undertaking a journey!
