A fabulous Northern Goldsmiths 9ct gold golfer fob pendant bearing full hallmarks for Chester 1936.
Rendered in 9ct gold and sterling silver the pendant features an beautifully enamelled golfer scene in a shield. The front of the fob is stamped 9ct and the back is stamped with the silver assay marks. This signifies that a sheet of gold has been mechanically bonded onto a sheet of silver so you end up with a solid gold fronted fob that will last (it is not simply gold plated).
It is always a treat to see Chester hallmarks, the assay office closed in 1962 so pieces marked for Chester are very collectable these days. The fob is super quality and heavy gauge, it has a wide bore heavy duty bale. It is engraved "J. Wood 1936" on the reverse so we can safely assume this was presented as an award for a particularly good game of golf!
Fabulous piece, iconic of the Art Deco era! The fob would have originally been worn on a dapper gent's Albert pocket watch chain but now they are worn as unique pendants and we love them!
MATERIALS: Solid 9 carat gold front, sterling silver back & bale
MEASUREMENTS: 1-5/8" high (4cm) measured with the bale, 1-1/4" wide (3.2cm) and 5mm deep

HALLMARKS: stamped '9CT' on the front, stamped on back: lion passant for sterling, 3 wheatsheaves for the city of Chester, date letter gothic 'L' for 1936 and makers mark 'N.G.Co' for Northern Goldsmiths a British firm known for producing high quality jewellery.
ERA: Art Deco, dated 1936
CONDITION: in excellent condition with light surface wear as expected in an antique piece, there is no damage to the enamel which is still bright and beautiful, please see photos. Please note the chain is not included.
