A beautiful heavy duty antique sterling silver Albert watch chain with a very decorative fob hallmarked in 1904. This fabulous chunky chain has thick solid curb links that are stamped throughout in the British lion passant for sterling. Measuring 17" (43cm) between the clip and T-bar it has a long drape length when worn as a watch chain and it is the perfect length to wear as necklace with the drop and fob forming a pendant. This quality chain has a marvelous presence however worn!
The silver fob is a generous size and exquisitely decorative, one side features a pillowed shield shaped cartouche framed in scrolling ribbons. It has the original owners name 'J Blackburn' in ornate engraving. The other side is just as ornate, shield shaped again with lots of intricate chasing and engraving.

MEASUREMENTS: 21" (53cm) measured from the end of the fob to the end of the clip. Drape length (from the T-bar to the clip is 17" (43cm). The drop length is 5" (12.5cm) which includes the fob. The links measure 10x8mm and 2.14mm thick. T-bar 1-1/2" (4cm). Albert clip 25x7.75mm. Fob 1-1/2" (4cm) tall,
HALLMARKS: worn 'lion passant' stamps throughout chain the links. Albert clip stamped 'lion passant' for sterling and date letter. Fob stamped lion passant, anchor for Birmingham, date letter 'e' for 1904 and makers mark 'JWT' for James Walter Tiptaft who were located on Northampton St. in Birmingham's historic jewellery quarter. No markings on the T-bar which has been acid tested and confirmed sterling

CONDITION: in excellent overall condition with light wear and signs of use as expected in an antique watch chain. The fob outline is asymmetrical which looks like a quirky manufacturing flaw rather than damage. The fob is made in heavy gauge silver and the edges are smooth so it is doesn't look like this tiny area could have snapped off. The dog clip is in perfect working order and fastens properly. This chain has been professionally cleaned and polished and is ready to wear or give as a gift.
