A wonderful antique Edwardian sterling silver novelty vesta case bearing full English hallmarks for 1913. Originally worn attached to pocket watch or chatelaine chain these vestas were made to carry matches, today they make for a unique locket style antique pendant, great for layering and a fab place to carry a secret keepsake or two or anything else that might take your fancy!
Fashioned as a miniature kidney shaped hip flask the vesta features machine turned engraving in an elegant geometric pattern with a vacant cartouche on one side that you could chose to have engraved for a personal touch. It has a match striker on the base and a hinged top that opens to access the roomy interior. It has a large heavy duty sterling silver ring on the top so you can wear it on any of your favorite necklace chains or on a pocket watch chain as originally intended. Please note the chain in the photos is not included.

MATERIALS: sterling silver
MEASUREMENTS: 1-1/2" (4cm) tall , 1-1/4" (3cm) wide, 9mm deep. Jump ring 9mm diameter, 1.6mm thick
HALLMARKS: stamped on inner rim: 'lion passant' for sterling, 'anchor' for Birmingham, date letter 'O' for 1913 and makers mark 'S.M.L.' Also stamped with a worn lion passant and date letter on the lid.
ERA: Edwardian, dated 1913
WEIGHT: 18.6 grams
CONDITION: in very, very good condition with light surface wear and faint scratches in keeping with age, the interior is gold gilded and very clean, the striker on the base is unworn, the hinge is nice and tight with the top shutting with a very firm and solid snap
