A beautiful antique Victorian locket and chain rendered in sterling silver. The locket features engraved antique Aesthetic patterns on both sides. The front decorated with a scalloped framed forget me not flower that charmingly suspends upside down so it can be viewed by the wearer the right way up.
The back an elongated triangle shaped shield motif, that we think is a stylised Irish harp, is framed in a scalloped border with little arrows that look like the footprints of little birds. Lovely detailing, even the sides of the locket are engraved!
The locket opens to reveal two compartments for photos and tiny keepsakes, one side has a silver removable frame. The locket opens easily and closes securely from the side and it suspends from an antique silver fine cable chain with a barrel snap clasp that is in perfect working order.
The chain measures 17 inches in length with the locket measuring 1-1/4" high (without the bail loop), 3/4" wide (30x20mm) and 5.6mm deep. The locket is unmarked but tests as solid sterling silver, the chain is marked 'sterling' on the clasp. Total weight is 5.9 grams.
Offered in very very good antique condition, there is light surface wear as you would expect of any preloved antique item. There is a tiny shallow dent above the harp but nothing untoward or detrimental.
