A classic antique Scottish chalcedony and sterling silver pendant necklace with a nice large black and white banded onyx cabochon.
All varieties of Scottish chalcedony (agate) were very popular in Victorian jewellery with "pebble jewellery" became particularly fashionable after Queen Victorian bought Balmoral Castle in Scotland in 1848.
The onyx is a lovely specimen, glossy black with a band of white around the edge on the front and a misty grey at the back. The stone is set into an open backed pillowed bezel with an oval bale at the top and the pendant suspends from a long lovely quality Italian sterling silver belcher chain.
