A delightful Victorian Whitby jet pendant carved into a wedding horseshoe motif. The giving of horseshoes to a bride is a very old tradition, the horseshoe was thought to resemble a crescent moon and therefore it was considered a potent fertility charm!
The pendant is a small size and constructed in 2 parts with a jet bale at the top. It suspends from a sterling silver chain with bead and tube links, the chain style echoes the 'nail' accents on the pendant beautifully and it adds a lovely sparkle to the deep black glossy jet. The bale is large enough to accommodate a ribbon too if you wanted to vary the look.
The pendant measures 1-1/2" (4cm) tall and 3/4" (2cm) wide and the chain is 16-1/2" (42cm). The chain is stamped '925' and the necklace weighs 3.3 grams in total.
This pendant necklace is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks in the jet. Being real jet it is extremely lightweight, if you have never enjoyed genuine Whitby jet jewellery before it is a lovely organic gemstone, intense black and glossy and warm to the touch, if you tap it against your teeth it makes a dull tap.
A lovely piece of affordable antique jet jewellery, perfect for adding a little good luck to your layering! Our shop is located in the heart of the old Victorian Whitby jet jewellery industry and all our jet is locally sourced.
