This charming antique Victorian sweetheart brooch is carved out of Whitby Jet, an ancient mineral gemstone found in and around the cliffs in Whitby, a seaside hamlet in England. Just imagine wearing a 180 million year old gemstone on your lapel or collar!
A bar brooch style it is carved into a lovely ribbon and forget me not design with a brass pin back that has a tubular hinge, and c-clasp . A very sweet piece of antique jewellery and a classic love token, lovely accent accessory good for the gents or the ladies! As you can see in our pattern book photo these Whitby Jet bar brooches were carved in a myriad of designs in the towns Victorian jet shops and they were the very height of fashion at the end of the 19th century.
