This fine quality 18th Century intaglio fob is crafted in solid 18ct gold and is large and heavy. The base is set with a carnelian gemstone seal engraved with the monogramed initials "WJ" in beautiful copperplate script. The Scottish stone is a gorgeous shade of orange and semi translucent.
Rendered in antique rose gold, a subtle rosy shade that is flattering to almost all skin tones. The fob is tall and slender in a neoclassical design, a stylised bell with reeded columns and shield shaped cut outs at the base. There are oval cartouches on the back and front to accommodate engraved initials should you wish. A large elegant suspension ring graces the top accented by a gold bead.
Originally worn on pocket watch or chatelaine chains these gorgeous high quality fobs make for unique antique pendants and can still be used to seal letters with wax, extremely collectable!
This fob is in lovely condition with expected signs wear and antique age. The suspension ring at the top has worn a little thin over the ages, see photos. It is fine to wear as it is but if you wanted to wear it constantly it would be wise to have a jeweller reinforce it for safety's sake. The engraved carnelian is damage free and the intaglio seal turns out a well defined impression/imprint.
